Song poetry (English spelling)

Japanese: 宋詩 - そうし（英語表記）Sòng shī

Poetry from the Song Dynasty in China. Characterized by a rigid intellectual style, it is considered to be one of the typical forms of Chinese poetry, along with Tang poetry. In the early Northern Song Dynasty, literature was in a state of ruin after the Five Dynasties upheaval. From the reign of Emperor Taizong to the reign of Emperor Zhenzong, there was finally a momentum for revival, but in poetry, the only thing that was popular was the Xikun style, which formally imitated the obscure and flashy poetry of Li Shangyin of the late Tang Dynasty. However, Wang Yuyan (954-1001) created his own unique poetry that was calm and unpretentious, yet contained social criticism, and is considered to be the first voice of Song poetry.

中国，宋代の詩。硬質な知性を特色とし，唐詩とならんで中国の詩の一方の典型とされている。　北宋の初期には，五代の変乱の後をうけて，文学は壊滅状態にあった。太宗から真宗時代にかけて，ようやく復興の機運が起こったが，詩においては晩唐の李商隠の晦渋できらびやかな詩を形式的に模倣する西昆（せいこん）体が流行したにすぎなかった。ただ王禹偁（おううしよう）(954‐1001)が，平静淡泊な中に，社会批判をこめた独自の詩を作り，宋詩の第一声とされる。
