Chichimeca people - Chichimeca (English spelling)

Japanese: チチメカ族 - チチメカぞく(英語表記)Chichimeca
Chichimeca people - Chichimeca (English spelling)
A tribe whose homeland was the arid inland region of northern Mexico (present-day Zacatecas). Opinions are divided on the meaning of the word Chichimeca, with some saying it means "people who suck the blood of animals," "eagles," or "lineage of dogs," and the correct meaning is unclear. Originally, they were a semi-nomadic people who practiced hunting and gathering and simple farming. They wore animal skins, carried bows and arrows, and were feared by the Spaniards of the 16th century for their bravery and cruelty. Their language is of the Nahuatl family. [Ooi Kuniaki]
