A technique of decorative crafts. Also written as inlay. It is the inlaying of other materials (sometimes of the same type) onto the surface of materials such as metal, ceramics, or wood. Metal inlays include thread inlay, in which patterns or letters are inlaid in a line, flat inlay, in which patterns or letters are inlaid in a wide plate shape, cloth inlay, high inlay, and cut inlay. In ceramics, clay of different colors is inlaid into the base to create pictures or patterns, which are then glazed and fired.
