Sendensho - Sendensho

Japanese: 仙伝抄 - せんでんしょう

An early Ikebana handbook. Also known as the "Sendensho." The original has not been handed down, and neither the date of its creation nor its editor are known. From the Keicho and Genna eras (1596-1624), several types of old typeset books were published as a single volume, and in 1643 (Kan'ei 20), a fully-printed version was published and became widely circulated. According to the colophon, the secret text of the Sanjo family was passed down from Tomiami in 1445 (Bun'an 2), through seven successors, to Ikenobo Senji (Sen'o) in 1536 (Tenbun 5). It is believed that someone compiled many of the secret articles during this roughly 90-year period.

初期のいけばな伝書。《仙伝書》ともいう。原本は伝わらず，成立年代，編者ともに明らかでない。慶長･元和年間(1596‐1624)から，何種類かの古活字本が，1冊本として刊行され，1643年(寛永20)には整版本も出て，広く流布するようになった。その奥書によれば，三条家の秘本を1445年(文安2)に富阿弥から始めて，7人の受伝者を経て，1536年(天文5)に池坊専慈(専応)が相伝したことになっている。このおよそ90年の間に，だれかが多くの秘伝の条文をまとめたのではないかとみられる。
