Yada Soun - Yada Soun

Novelist and haiku poet. Born in Kanazawa City. Real name Yoshikatsu. Entered Tokyo Senmon Gakko (now Waseda University) in 1900 (Meiji 33). Became a student of Masaoka Shiki while still at school and continued composing haiku. Switched from Kyushu Nippo to Hochi Shimbun. In 1926 (Taisho 15), founded the first edition of Taishu Bungei with Naoki Sanjugo and others. His representative works include the geographical historical reading From Edo to Tokyo, 12 volumes in total (1920-23, 1926, 1941-42), and the full-length novel Taikoki, 12 volumes in total (1925-34), which was based on extensive research into historical documents and supported by evidence from field surveys, and became the foundation stone for later Taikoki works.

小説家、俳人。金沢市に生まれる。本名義勝(よしかつ)。1900年(明治33)東京専門学校(現早稲田(わせだ)大学)へ入学。在学中より正岡子規(しき)の門に入り句作を続ける。『九州日報』から『報知新聞』に転じる。1926年(大正15)直木三十五らと第一次『大衆文芸』を創刊。代表作に地誌的歴史読物『江戸から東京へ』全12巻(1920~23、1926、1941~42)があり、また、長編小説『太閤記(たいこうき)』全12巻(1925~34)は、史書を渉猟(しょうりょう)し、実地踏査による実証に支えられ、後の『太閤記』ものの礎石となった。
