Japanese: 伊丹[市] - いたみ
Itami [city] - Itami
A city in the southeastern part of Hyogo Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1940. It occupies the Muko River basin in the western part of the Osaka Plain, and was formerly called Inano. There are many reservoirs, such as the Konyo Pond built by Gyoki, and rice fields spread across the city. The city center developed as a castle town for the Itami clan and the territory of the Konoe clan. After the opening of the Fukuchiyama Line and the Hankyu Itami Line, the machinery and equipment, textile, and chemical industries moved in, making it an industrial area second only to Amagasaki City. Precision machinery factories were also established here, and the development of cutting-edge technologies such as optical fiber was also active. It also became a satellite city of Osaka City. Sake brewing, which developed after the encouragement of the Konoe family, is active, and vegetable, fruit, and seedling cultivation is also thriving. There is Konyo-ji Temple and Osaka International Airport, and the Fukuchiyama Line, Hankyu Railway, and Chugoku Expressway pass through the city. The southern Hyogo Prefecture earthquake in January 1995 killed 19 people and caused damage to 8,570 houses, which collapsed or burned. 25.00 km 2 . 196,127 people (2010).
