…A collection of songs written in Old Norse from the 9th to the 13th century. There is another introductory book on poetics, the Edda, written by the 13th-century Icelandic scholar Snorri Sturluson. To distinguish between these two books, the former is called the Poetic Edda, the Song Edda, or the Sämund's Edda, and the latter is called the Neo Edda, the Prose Edda, or the Snorri's Edda. The Poetic Edda is a collection of ancient songs from Germanic mythology and heroic legends, consisting of 29 songs from an ancient manuscript discovered in Skálholt, Iceland in 1643, with some added from later periods. …
