Fan stone

Japanese: 煽石 - せんせき
Fan stone
〘Noun〙 Coal from underground coal seams is carbonized by the heat of volcanic rocks and turned into coke. It is less homogeneous and has a higher ash content than regular anthracite or coke, making it harder to use. Depending on the degree of alteration, it is given the common names of Hashiri, Okori, Chikura, etc. It is produced in the Chikuho and Amakusa coalfields. *Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun - December 15, 1873 (Meiji 6) "A man named Yamamoto Bunji plans to open a trading company for burning lime using fan stones in the Tokyo suburbs."
