...They have a tendency to gather around lights at night, and are caught in large quantities using fish-attracting lights. In Kinki, Chugoku, and Shikoku, they are known by local names such as Saira (from which the species name comes), Saera, Sairenbou, Sayori, and Kado; in Kyushu, Sairaiwashi, Saza, and Sazameuo; and in Niigata, Banjo. In Kushiro, small ones are called Nankinsanma. This species is distributed over a wide area from 20° to 55° north latitude in the North Pacific Ocean, from the Far Eastern Seaboard in the west to the west coast of the American continent in the east. ...
