Hawaiian Islands (English spelling)

Located in the central Pacific Ocean, these islands make up the US state of Hawaii. They cover an area of 11,641 km2. They are made up of volcanic and coral reef islands stretching 2,400 km from west-northwest to east-southeast. The eight main islands, from east to east, are Hawaii Island, Maui, Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai, and Niihau, which occupy the eastern end of the archipelago, with 124 other small islands scattered to the west. The largest island is Hawaii Island, and its highest peak is Mauna Kea (4,206 m). National Parks include Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Haleakala National Park.
