Collection of Crazy Clouds - Kyounshu

This is one of the collections of Ikkyu Sojun's works. Ikkyu's other works include "Kyouun Shishu" and "Jikaishu." While "Kyouun Shishu" is a collection of Chinese poetry, "Kyouunshu" is a collection of odes, verses, and praises. Odes and verses express Buddhist teachings or one's own religious state of mind, and in appearance are no different from poetry. While poetry is composed based on emotion and feeling, odes and verses express one's thoughts and spiritual state of mind. There are eleven versions of "Kyouunshu" with different numbers of works included, but all of the works are seven-character quatrains. The content of the work is worthy of the title Kyoun (Mad Cloud), and is filled with an impassioned spirit, including passionate emotions fluctuating between confidence and remorse, the breaking of the commandments of drinking alcohol, eating meat, and committing crimes against women, the absurdity of exposing hypocrisy and corruption, and the sincerity of the seeker of truth.

一休宗純(そうじゅん)の作品集の一つ。一休にはほかに『狂雲詩集』『自戒集』などがある。『狂雲詩集』が漢詩の集であるのに対し、『狂雲集』は頌(じゅ)、偈(げ)、賛などの集である。頌や偈は仏教の教えや自己の宗教的境涯を詠むもので、外形はまったく詩と変わらない。詩が情緒や感覚によって詠まれるのに対して、頌、偈は思想や精神の境涯が表出される。『狂雲集』には収録作品数の異なる11の諸本があるが、作品はすべて七言絶句である。内容は狂雲の名にふさわしく、自信と悔恨の間に揺れ動く激情と、飲酒(おんじゅ)・肉食(にくじき)・女色(にょしょく)の破戒と、偽善と腐敗を暴く非常識と、求道(ぐどう)の真摯(しんし)さとの、熱烈な精神に満ちている。
