Ikeda [city] - Ikeda
A city in the northern part of Osaka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1939. The northern part is hilly, while the southern part is part of the Osaka Plain. Its ancient name was Kureha no Sato, and it is said to be a place where immigrants passed down weaving techniques. The city center on the left bank of the Ina River, which flows south along the border with Hyogo Prefecture, flourished in the early modern period as a trading market for charcoal (Ikeda charcoal) and fruit, and during the Genroku period it was a sake brewing area on a par with the Nada Gogo. The city is served by the Hankyu Takarazuka Line, and is a satellite city of Osaka City. In the southern part near Osaka International Airport, there are factories that manufacture small cars and optical lenses. In the rural areas, tree and seedling cultivation is thriving. The city is served by the Chugoku Expressway and the Hanshin Expressway. 22.14 km2 . 104,229 people (2010).
