Arab historian. Born into the prestigious Asakir family of Damascus, he studied under Shafi'i scholars and then travelled to Baghdad to study at the Nizamiya School. He returned to Damascus once, and from 1134 travelled again to the eastern countries to collect a vast amount of traditions (hadith). After returning to Damascus in 1141, he worked to spread the doctrine of Sunni Islam under the patronage of Nur al-Din. His main work is the History of Damascus, which consists of 10 volumes and 80 books. [Sato Tsugitaka]

アラブの歴史家。ダマスクスの名門アサーキル家に生まれ,シャーフィイー派の学者に師事して諸学を修めた後,バグダードに旅してニザーミーヤ学院に学んだ。一度ダマスクスに戻り,1134年から再び東方諸国を巡って膨大な伝承(ハディース)を収集したが,41年にダマスクスへ帰還してからは,ヌール・アッディーンの庇護を得てスンナ派教義の広布に努めた。主著は10巻80冊からなる《ダマスクス史》。【佐藤 次高】
