Twenty-eight deities - Nijuuhachibushu
(Also called "Nijuhachibushu") A general term for the 28 benevolent deities who are attendants of the Thousand-Armed Kannon and protect those who recite the Mangon Dharani. Generally, the gods are Mitsuji Vajrayana, Usugundaragu, Manarayan, Konpiradakavir, Sitaparna, Manshanshahachimadara, Satsumawara, Kulantantahanjira, King Bibhagara, Otoku Vitaswara, Bonma Sambhaya, Gobu Jokyo Enmara, Shaka-o 33, Daibengutokuten, King Tito Raita, Divine Mothers and Other Great Powers, Vairocana, Vairocana, Bishamonten, Golden Peacock King, Twenty-eight Great Immortals, Manibadhara, Sansatsu Daishofuraba, Nandabantana, Great Body Asura, Water, Fire, Thunder and Lightning God, Kuphandara, and Vishaja. (「にじゅうはちぶしゅ」とも) 千手観音の眷属で、真言陀羅尼の誦持者を守護する二八人の善神の総称。一般に密迹金剛士・烏芻君荼央倶尸・摩醯那羅延・金毘羅陀迦毘羅・姿婆楼那・満善車鉢真陀羅・薩遮摩和羅・鳩蘭単吒半祇羅・畢婆伽羅王・応徳毘多薩和羅・梵摩三鉢羅・五部浄居炎摩羅・釈王三十三・大弁功徳天・提頭頼吒王・神母女等大力衆・毘楼勒叉・毘楼博叉・毘沙門天・金色孔雀王・二十八部大仙衆・摩尼跋陀羅・散脂大将弗羅婆・難陀跋難陀・大身阿修羅・水火雷電神・鳩槃荼王・毘舎闍などの各神。神名は必ずしも一定しない。二十八部者。※中院本平家(13C前)二「龍神は廿八ぶしゅの其一なれば」
