Kyo- gyōkyaugyau [Traveling]

きょう‐ぎょう キャウギャウ【経行】

〘名〙 仏語。一定の場所を行ったり来たりして歩くこと。坐禅の疲労や眠気をさますために行なうもの。転じて、読経念仏しながら仏堂内などの一定の所を歩くこと。きんひん。※霊異記(810‐824)中「樹下を経行して、仏道を求む」※源平盛衰記(14C前)二八「偏へに経をよみ、坊中(ばうぢう)に経行(キャウギャウ)して」

きん‐ひん【経行】

〘名〙 (「きん」は「経」の、「ひん」は「行」の唐宋音) 禅宗で、座禅の時に、睡眠などを防ぐため時間を定めて衆僧が一斉に座を立ち、堂内の一定距離を作法に従いゆっくり往復して歩くこと。※正法眼蔵(1231‐53)行持上「古往の聖人、おほく樹下露地に経行(きんひん)す」

へ‐ゆ・く【経行】

〘自カ四〙 時間・月日などがたって行く。※万葉(8C後)一五・三七一三「黄葉は今はうつろふ吾妹子が待たむといひし時の倍由気(ヘユケ)ば」
