Born on November 20, 1854. Second son of Aoyama Yukishige. In 1860, he became the 7th head of the Aoyama family, the lord of Hachiman Domain in Mino (Gifu Prefecture). In 1884, he became a viscount. He served as president of Nippon Printing and director of Iwakura Railway School. In 1898, he became a member of the House of Peers. He passed away on February 6, 1930, at the age of 77.
