Born: June 7, 1897, Budapest
[Died] July 30, 1970. Cleveland. American conductor born in Hungary. Started out as a pianist and composer, and later switched to conducting. Began working as conductor at the Strasbourg Opera in 1917, and was active in Prague, Darmstadt, and other cities. Was first conductor at the Berlin State Opera from 1924 to 1929, during which time he was also appointed professor at the Berlin Music School in 1926. Moved to England in 1933, where he conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and from 1937 to 1939 was principal conductor of the Scottish Orchestra. Moved to the United States in 1939 due to World War II, and became principal conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra in 1946, raising the orchestra to one of America's leading orchestras. Regarded as America's greatest conductor. His repertoire is wide, from classical to contemporary.

Scelle, Georges

Born: March 19, 1878 in Avranches
Died January 8, 1961. A French scholar of international law in Paris. He received his doctorate in law in 1906, and after teaching at the universities of Dijon and Geneva, he became a professor at the University of Paris in 1934. Following in the footsteps of L. Duguy, he developed a theory of international law based on social solidarity, and in particular a unique view that denied the legal personality of states and considered individuals to be the sole subjects of international law. At the United Nations International Law Commission, he contributed to the drafting and creation of rules on arbitration procedures. His main works include Précis de droit des gens, principes et systématique (1932-34) and Cours de droit international public (48).

Someu (worsted) is a type of Japanese fabric, an abbreviation of the Dutch word serge. Both the warp and weft are made of pure worsted wool, and it is generally woven in a plain weave, with patterns such as marbled, striped, ikat, and printed. In addition to pure wool serge, there are silk serge (silk or silk-wool mixed weave), half serge (cotton-wool mixed weave), and cotton serge (cotton fabric). It is used for single-layer kimono fabrics and hakama fabrics that can be worn by both men and women.

フランスの国際法学者。 1906年法学博士,ディージョン,ジュネーブの大学教授を経て,34年パリ大学教授。 L.デュギーの流れをくみ社会連帯を基礎とした国際法理論,特に国家の法人格を否定して国際法の主体をもっぱら個人とする特異な見解を展開した。国連国際法委員会では,仲裁手続に関する規則の立案・作成に貢献した。主著『国際法概論──原則と体系』 Précis de droit des gens,principes et systématique (1932~34) ,『国際公法講義』 Cours de droit international public (48) 。

梳毛 (そもう) 和服地の一つで,オランダ語セルジ sergeの略語。経糸,緯糸とも純毛梳毛糸を用い,一般に平織で,柄は霜降り,縞,絣,プリント。純毛セルのほか,絹セル (絹または絹毛交織) ,半セル (綿毛交織) ,綿セル (綿織物) などがある。用途は男女とも合着にする単 (ひとえ) の着尺地,袴地など。
