Ishibashi [town] - Ishibashi
An old town in Shimotsuga District, southern Tochigi Prefecture. It occupies the lowlands along the coast of Sugata River, a tributary of the Watarase River. The city center developed as a post town on the Nikko Kaido road. It is a specialty area for kanpyo (dried gourd). It also produces rice and vegetables. An industrial complex has been developed, and the amount of shipping is increasing. The Tohoku Main Line runs through the town, and many people commute to Utsunomiya. In January 2006, it merged with Minamikawachi Town, Kawachi District, and Kokubunji Town, Shimotsuga District, to become a city, Shimotsuke City. 22.43 km2 . Population: 20,210 (2003).
