Japanese: 違警罪 - いけいざい

This is one of the crime categories, along with felonies and misdemeanors, adopted in the old Penal Code that came into force in Japan on January 1, 1882. This category is also thought to have been inherited from the French Penal Code. In addition to 71 punishment items stipulated in Articles 425-429 of Book 4 of the old Penal Code, Article 430 indicated that each region was allowed to set the same crime according to its convenience. Those who fell under this crime were subject to detention or a fine. (→Examples of summary convictions for police violations)
