Takase boat

Japanese:
Takase boat
A type of river boat. In the past, they were small and deep-bottomed (takase), but later they became large with high bows and shallow bottoms. In the early modern period, they were used for cargo transport on many rivers, including the Tone River, Oi River, Hozu River, and Fuji River. The Takase River between Kyoto and Fushimi, opened by Suminokura Ryoi, was named after the river that was dug to allow these river boats to navigate.
