Modified cross-section yarn

This refers to synthetic fiber yarns produced by melt spinning that have a non-circular cross section. When spinning synthetic fiber yarns, the molten liquid is ejected from a spinneret (nozzle) to obtain the yarn, and the cross section of the yarn is determined by the shape of the nozzle. The nozzle shape is usually circular, but when it is shaped like a triangle, polygon, or other complex shape, irregular cross-section yarns are produced. Irregular cross-section yarns have a unique luster and texture; for example, some irregular cross-section yarns, such as nylon and tetron, have a texture similar to that of silk thread.

溶融紡糸による合成繊維糸の断面が円形でないものをいう。合成繊維糸を紡糸する際に溶融液を紡糸口金 (ノズル) から射出して糸を得るが，糸の断面はノズルの形状で決る。ノズルの形状は通常，円形であるが，これを三角形，多角形，複雑な形などにすると異形断面糸が製造される。異形断面糸は独特の光沢，触感をもち，たとえばナイロン，テトロンなどの異形断面糸で絹糸に似た風合いのものもある。
