Lizard-nosed flycatcher (English name: Astronesthes ijimai)

Japanese: トカゲハダカ（英語表記）Astronesthes ijimai

A deep-sea fish of the Salmoniformes family. It has sharp fang-like teeth and a wide-open mouth, and uses a light-emitting organ at the tip of one of the baleen on its lower jaw to attract and attack prey, which it then swallows whole. It is found in the open ocean of central and southern Honshu, and sometimes rises to the surface at night. Its body color is a velvety blackish brown. Its fins are unpigmented. The pelvic fin is located under the center of the body, and the dorsal fin is slightly behind that. The anal fin is located halfway down between the dorsal and caudal fins. It has an oily fin behind the dorsal fin, and another oily fin in front of the anal fin, which is a major characteristic not seen in other fish.

サケ目トカゲハダカ科の深海魚。鋭いきば状の歯と大きく開く口をもち，下あごにある1本のひげの先端の発光器で餌を誘引かつ攻撃して丸のみにする。本州中･南部の外洋に分布し，夜間，海面付近に浮上することがある。体色は黒褐色でビロードのような色調をもつ。ひれには色素がない。腹びれは体の中心下方にあり，背びれはそれよりやや後位。しりびれは背びれと尾びれの中間下方に位置する。背びれの後方にあぶらびれがあるほか，しりびれ前方にもあぶらびれがあるのが，他の魚には見られない大きな特徴である。
