Stone Sword - Soap

It is one of the polished stone tools from the late to final Jomon period. It is rod-shaped like a stone club, has an oval cross section, has a knob-like head on one end, and is generally sharp at the tip. Some tools have S-shaped indentations, spiral patterns, cedar patterns, and 工字 patterns on the knob-like head. It is distributed throughout eastern Japan, and is scattered throughout the country. It is particularly densely distributed from southwestern Hokkaido to northern Tohoku, and many of the tools in this region have patterns on the head. However, its function cannot be immediately inferred from its name. It is thought to have been used as a non-practical tool, not directly related to daily production activities. Many are made of chlorite schist and slate.

縄文時代後期から晩期の磨製石器の一つ。石棒に似て棒状を呈し、断面が楕円(だえん)形で一端に瘤(こぶ)状の頭部がつき、先端がとがっているものが一般的である。瘤状の頭部にはS字状入組(いりくみ)文、渦巻(うずまき)文、綾杉(あやすぎ)文、工字文などの文様が施されるものもある。東日本一帯に分布し、全国的に点在する。とくに北海道南西部から東北地方北部にかけて濃い分布を示し、頭部に文様の施されるのもこの地域のものに多い。しかし、名称からただちに機能を類推することはできない。日常の生産活動などに直接関係するものではなく、非実用的な道具として使用されたと考えられる。緑泥片岩(りょくでいへんがん)、粘板岩(ねんばんがん)製のものが多い。
