It was written between 413 and 427, and was inspired by the invasion of Rome by the Visigoths, and is a historical apologetics for Christianity that he had been considering for a long time. The first half of the work argues that the fall of Rome was due to Rome's failure to worship the true God, and that Christianity was not to blame (volumes 1-5), and that the religions of Rome and Greece were mythological and magical, and not true religions (volumes 6-10). The second half of the work discusses the creation and fall of the universe, angels, and mankind (volumes 11-14), the history of mankind from Adam to Christ (volumes 15-18), and the final judgment and the realization of the Kingdom of God (volumes 19-22). …
