This cesium removal equipment was jointly manufactured by Toshiba, IHI, and Shaw, a major American nuclear power company. The nickname for the equipment, "SARRY," is an abbreviation of the English expression for "Simplified Active Water Retrieve and Recovery System." It was installed in August in addition to the foreign-made equipment already in operation to remove radioactive contamination from the water that was poured in large quantities to cool the out-of-control reactor core during the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011. By switching the valves, it is possible to change the order and system of water treatment, such as connecting it to the previous equipment or operating it alone, and the aim is to improve the operation rate and increase the amount of contaminated water treatment.
A system of two devices, made by Kurion (USA) and Areva (France), connected in series, has been in operation since June of the same year as a treatment system for highly radioactive contaminated water, but due to equipment troubles and repeated human errors, the removal capacity and operation rate were far below expectations, and treatment delays were pointed out. For this reason, the newly introduced Sally as a backup will be operated in parallel with the old device, and the new and old devices will be combined to treat up to 70 tons of contaminated water per hour, from the more than 100,000 tons of contaminated water that was accumulated at the time of its introduction. Sally has two systems of cylindrical adsorption towers filled with synthetic zeolite and titanium silicate that adsorb radioactive materials, connected in series, and the contaminated water is passed through these systems to purify it. By reducing the number of pumps that feed water and making it less likely to malfunction, it is said to have a simpler structure and higher reliability than the Kurion cesium adsorption device with similar functions currently in operation.

東芝、IHI及び米国の原子力産業大手ショー社が共同で製造したセシウム除去装置。装置の通称「サリー(SARRY)」は、「単純型汚染水処理システム」の英語表記Simplified Active Water Retrieve and Recovery Systemの略称。2011年の福島第一原子力発電所の事故の際、暴走した炉心を冷やすために大量に投入された水の放射能汚染を除去するため、先行して稼働する外国製装置に加えて、8月から追加導入された。弁の切り替えによって先行する装置と連結したり、単独で運用したりするなど水処理の順や系統を変更することが可能になり、汚染水処理の稼働率向上や処理量増加を図ることを目指している。
高濃度放射性汚染水の処理装置として、米キュリオン社と仏アレバ社の2つの装置を直列につないだものが同年6月から稼働しているが、機器のトラブルや相次ぐヒューマンエラーで除去能力や稼働率が想定を大きく下回り処理の遅れが指摘されていた。このため、バックアップ用に新たに投入したサリーを旧来の装置と並行運転させ、導入時点で10万トン以上も滞留した汚染水について、新旧合わせて毎時最大70トンの処理を行う予定。サリーは、放射性物質を吸着させる合成ゼオライトとチタンケイ酸塩を詰めた円筒形の吸着塔を並べて直列につないだものを2系統備え、ここに汚染水を流して浄化する仕組み。水を送り込むポンプの数を減らして不具合が起きにくくするなどして、現在稼働中である同様の機能のキュリオン社のセシウム吸着装置よりもシンプルな構造で信頼性が高いという。
