1534‐71 A young king of the Lan Xang Kingdom (14th-18th century), founded by the Lao people, known as the Thais of the Mekong River. Reigned 1547-71. Born in Muang Sawa (now Luang Prabang). His father was King Photoisara, who expanded the kingdom into southern Laos and traded with the Shan countries, and his mother was a princess of the Lannatai Kingdom. At the age of 12, he ascended to the throne in Chiang Mai as king of Lannatai, but in 1547 his father died in an accident.
