A Shaivite saint and religious poet active in the Tamil region of medieval South India. He lived from the late 7th century to the early 8th century. Together with Uppar and Sambandar, he laid the foundation for the rise of Shaivism in South India. The 650 hymns he composed are included in the Shaivist holy book, Devāram (around the 10th century).
