Cape Kamoda

Also known as Gamou-da Misaki, this cape is the easternmost point of Shikoku. It belongs to Anan City, Tokushima Prefecture. It is the tip of a peninsula that is about 7 km east to west, and separates the Kii Channel from the Pacific Ocean from Hinomisaki in Wakayama Prefecture. There is a lighthouse at the eastern end of the cape, and below the lighthouse is a 50-meter cliff. The marsh plant community below the lighthouse is home to Typha and Iron Star Fern, and is also a good place for camping. The sandy beach is known as a nesting ground for loggerhead turtles. At one time, there were plans to build a nuclear power plant here, but the plans were scrapped due to opposition from residents. There are guesthouses and an elementary school inside the seawall. The entire area is part of the Muroto-Anan Kaigan Quasi-National Park.

「がもうだみさき」ともいう。四国最東端の岬。徳島県阿南(あなん)市に属する。東西約7キロメートルの半島の先端部で、和歌山県日ノ御埼(ひのみさき)に対して紀伊水道と太平洋を分ける。岬の東端には灯台があり、灯台下は50メートルの断崖(だんがい)となっている。灯台下の湿原植物群落にはヒメガマ、テツホシダが自生し、またキャンプの好適地。砂浜はアカウミガメの産卵地として知られる。一時、原子力発電所設置計画があったが住民の反対で解消した。防潮堤の内側に民宿や小学校がある。一帯は室戸阿南海岸国定公園に含まれる。
