Japanese: フォートリエ - ふぉーとりえ(英語表記)Jean Fautrier
Jean Fautrier

French painter. Born in Paris. After the death of his father, he went to London and received art education at the Royal Academy and other institutions. In 1917, he was drafted and returned to France. In 1921, with the support of Jeanne Castel, he painted his first oil painting. In 1928, he produced lithograph illustrations for Dante's Inferno, and from this time on he began to show a tendency towards abstraction. In 1934, he lived as a skiing instructor in the foothills of the French Alps. In 1940, he returned to Paris and produced the "Hostages" series from 1942 to 1944. This series was exhibited in 1945 and influenced Europe as a forerunner of Informel painting, and his careful impasto painting and delicate colors became characteristic of his paintings. From 1949 to 1953, he devoted himself to producing multiple prints of his works and "multiple originals." In 1960, he won the Grand Prize at the Venice Biennale. He died in Châtenay-Malabry.
