Japanese: 松橋[町] - まつばせ

This old town in Shimomashiki County faces the northernmost shore of the Yatsushiro Sea in central Kumamoto Prefecture. It flourished as an estuary port at the mouth of the Ono River until the mid-Meiji period. There is a large area of reclaimed land along the coast, and rice cultivation is thriving. Rush grass and melons are also produced. In the eastern part, mandarin oranges and other fruit trees are cultivated. The Kagoshima Main Line, Kyushu Expressway, and National Route 3 pass through the town. In January 2005, it merged with Mikaku Town and Shiranui Town in Uto County, and Ogawa Town and Toyono Town in Shimomashiki County to become Uki City. 38.15 ^km2 . Population 25,009 (2003).

熊本県中部，八代(やつしろ)海の最北岸に臨む下益城(しもましき)郡の旧町。明治中期まで大野川の河口港として栄えた。沿岸は干拓地も広く，米作が盛ん。イグサ，メロンも産する。東部はミカンなどの果樹栽培が行われる。鹿児島本線，九州自動車道，国道３号線などが通じる。2005年１月宇土郡三角町，不知火町，下益城郡小川町，豊野町と合併し市制，宇城市となる。38.15km²。２万5009人（2003）。
