Petroleum tax - Sekiyuzei

Japanese: 石油税 - せきゆぜい

A general term for taxes imposed on petroleum products consumed in Japan. Gasoline is taxed on gasoline (gasoline tax and local gasoline tax), diesel fuel for diesel vehicles is taxed on diesel delivery tax, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for LPG vehicles is taxed on petroleum gas tax, and aviation fuel is taxed on aviation fuel. The gasoline tax was imposed in 1954, the local road tax in 1955, the light oil delivery tax in 1956, and the petroleum gas tax in 1966, and were designated as road-specific revenue sources for the purpose of road construction by the national and local governments, but in 2009 the road-specific revenue sources were abolished and became general revenue sources, and the local road tax was renamed the local gasoline tax. The aviation fuel tax has been collected since 1972, and the tax revenue is used as a source of funds for airport construction.

日本国内で消費される石油製品に対して課される税の総称。ガソリンにはガソリン税（揮発油税と地方揮発油税）が，ディーゼル車用の軽油には軽油引取税が，LPG自動車用の液化石油ガス LPGには石油ガス税が，航空燃料には航空機燃料税が課される。1954年から揮発油税，1955年から地方道路税，1956年から軽油引取税，1966年から石油ガス税が賦課され，国と地方公共団体の道路整備を目的とする道路特定財源とされていたが，2009年に道路特定財源は廃止，一般財源化され，また地方道路税は地方揮発油税と改称された。航空機燃料税は 1972年から徴収され，税収は空港整備の財源にあてられている。
