A technical system for processing crude oil using physical and chemical means to produce various petroleum products. After World War II, due to the development of large oil fields in the Middle East, the growing size and speed of tankers, and the need for oil-consuming countries to save foreign currency for purchasing oil, refining in the country of consumption became the norm. However, in recent years, oil-producing countries have been increasingly attempting to refine their own oil locally and export petroleum products instead of exporting crude oil, in order to develop domestic industries and increase added value.
