A domain that ruled the area around Koga in Shimousa Province (Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture). Fudai. In 1590 (Tensho 18), Tokugawa Ieyasu entered Edo Castle and granted Ogasawara Hidemasa 30,000 koku and Koga Castle. This marked the establishment of the Koga Domain. Later, Matsudaira (Toda) Yasunaga (20,000 koku), Ogasawara Nobuyuki and Masanobu (20,000 koku), Okudaira Tadamasa (110,000 koku), Nagai Naokatsu (72,000 koku) and Naomasa (more than 89,100 koku), were successively granted, but in 1633 (Kan'ei 10), the senior official Doi Toshikatsu was granted more than 160,000 koku, making it the largest domain of any daimyo in history. Toshikatsu's son Toshitaka inherited 135,000 koku, and his son Toshishige inherited 100,000 koku, so the family's holdings gradually decreased, but during this time four daimyo with shared domains were created. Toshishige was succeeded by his younger brother Toshihisa, but he died in 1675 (Enpo 3) at the age of 10 without an heir, and the family line came to an end. However, due to the hard work of his grandfather Toshikatsu, Toshitaka's son with a shared domain, Toshimasu, was allowed to inherit the family name and inherited 70,000 koku. In 1681 (Tenwa 1), Masatoshi Hotta, a senior councilor, was transferred to Toba in Shima (Mie Prefecture) with a fief of 90,000 koku, and the following year he was granted an additional 40,000 koku, giving him a fief of 130,000 koku. Masatoshi's son, Masanaka, inherited 100,000 koku, but was soon transferred to Yamagata in Dewa. They were succeeded by Matsudaira (Fujii) Nobuyuki (90,000 koku) and Tadayuki (80,000 koku, disappeared due to insanity), Matsudaira (Nagasawa, Okawachi) Nobuteru and Nobutoki (70,000 koku), Honda Tadayoshi and Tadahisa (50,000 koku), Matsudaira (Matsui) Yasuyoshi (more than 50,000 koku), and in 1762 (12th year of the Horeki era), Tosato, a descendant of Doi Toshikatsu, entered the domain again with 70,000 koku. Tosato moved the domain school Eikado from the Karatsu era to Koga. In 1822 (5th year of the Bunsei era), the senior councilor Toshiatsu was given an additional 10,000 koku, and thereafter there was no change until the domain was abolished. Toshitsura, the son of Toshiatsura (senior councilor), was known as a scholar along with the chief retainer, Senseki Takami. In 1871 (Meiji 4), the feudal domain was abolished, and the area was incorporated into Ibaraki Prefecture, passing through Koga Prefecture, Inba Prefecture, and Chiba Prefecture.
