The kingdom's 417-year history saw the successive rule of five dynasties: U-Thong (1351-70, 1388-1408), Suphannabhumi (1370-88, 1409-1569), Sukhothai (1569-1630), Prasathorn (1630-88), and Ban Phru Luang (1688-1767). Ayutthaya was at the confluence of the three rivers, the Menam (Chao Phraya), Lopburi, and Pasak, and had already prospered as a trading center by the first half of the 14th century.
