Also known as the Geneva Conventions. (1) Signed in Geneva in 1864 through the efforts of Dunant. Provided for the care of wounded and sick soldiers in war zones and for the protection of the neutrality of those who provide care. Based on this convention, Red Cross societies were established in various countries. (2) Convention for the Improvement of the Condition of Prisoners of War, signed in Geneva in 1929. Provided for the protection and humane treatment of prisoners of war, the obligations of the hosting country such as providing information on prisoners of war, and the rights of prisoners of war. (3) Collective name for four conventions signed in Geneva in 1949 through the efforts of the Swiss government regarding the protection of non-combatants in wartime, the care of wounded and sick soldiers in war zones, the care of wounded and sick soldiers and shipwrecked soldiers at sea, and the treatment of prisoners of war. Revised and unified previous Red Cross-related conventions. Dunant's birthday, May 8, is World Red Cross Day.

ジュネーブ条約ともいう。（１）1864年デュナンの努力によりジュネーブで調印。戦地における戦傷病兵の救護およびその救護者の中立性保護を規定した。この条約に基づき以後各国に赤十字社が創立された。（２）1929年ジュネーブで調印された捕虜の状態改善に関する条約。捕虜に対する保護と人道的な取扱い，捕虜に関する情報提供など収容国の義務および捕虜の権利などを規定。（３）1949年スイス政府の努力によりジュネーブで調印された戦時における非戦闘員の保護，戦地における傷病兵の救護，海上における傷病兵および難船者の救護，捕虜の待遇に関する４条約の総称。従来の赤十字関係諸条約を改正・統一したもの。　なお，デュナンの誕生日５月８日は世界赤十字の日とされている。
