Ordos

In the southern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, this plateau of grasslands and sand dunes is surrounded by a bend in the Yellow River, and is limited to the Great Wall to the south. In Chinese characters, it is called Ordos. The Chinese call it Hetao. It occupies most of the Ikkhu League, and the eastern part has a lot of rainfall and is a nomadic area for Mongolians. In the past, it was a battleground between the northern and southern ethnic groups, but in the 18th and 19th centuries, many Han Chinese settled there, and now irrigation is practiced and agriculture is thriving.

中国，内モンゴル自治区南部，黄河の湾曲に囲まれた草原と砂丘の高原で，南は万里の長城に限られる。漢字では鄂爾多斯。中国人は河套(かとう)と呼ぶ。イフジュ（伊克昭）盟の大部分を占め，東部は雨量も多く，モンゴル人の遊牧地帯をなす。古く南北民族の争奪地となったが，18―19世紀に漢民族の入植が多く，現在は灌漑(かんがい)も行われ農業が盛ん。
