negentropy

According to this definition, the average amount of information per minus sign, H , is called "entropy" because it has the same shape as the entropy in thermodynamics. However, unlike in thermodynamics, it has a negative sign, so it is sometimes called "negative entropy (negentropy)." While entropy in statistical mechanics is a "measure of disorder," the entropy of information is negative, so information can be said to be a "measure of order."
