World Code - Sekai Koumoku

Japanese: 世界綱目 - せかいこうもく

A handbook for Kabuki writers. One manuscript. The original author is unknown. The copy in the University of Tsukuba says it was "written by Kanai Sansho." The original was created before 1791 (Kansei 3), and was later transcribed and supplemented by Kabuki writers. The "world," the basic concept of Kabuki and Kyogen, is categorized into eras, families, and roles, and each category lists the names of the characters that appear, reference books, and Joruri works with the same subject, with necessary notes. Three manuscripts have been confirmed, and are held by the National Diet Library, the University of Tsukuba, and the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tokyo.

歌舞伎作者のための便覧。写本1冊。原著者不明。筑波大学所蔵本には〈金井三笑撰ト云〉とある。1791年(寛政3)以前に原型が成立，以後の歌舞伎作者たちが転写，補筆したものである。歌舞伎狂言の基本概念である〈世界〉を時代，御家，世話などに分類して名目を掲げ，それぞれに登場する役名，参考書，同題材の浄瑠璃作品名を列挙し，必要な注を施してある。写本は現在3点確認され，国立国会図書館，筑波大学，東京大学教養学部に所蔵されている。
