[Died] 1038. Nishapur, a man of letters and linguist born in Iran. He left behind many great works in Arabic. Sa'ālibī means "fox man," and it is said that he was a seller of fox furs in his youth. Yatīma al-dahr (The Peerless One of the Ages) is a collection of the best poems of the era, and is an immortal masterpiece. It is particularly significant as a record of literary activity in the 10th century, the heyday of Arabic literature. It is not just a collection of great poems, but also conveys the achievements of poets. He also left behind many other works, including Fiqh al-lugha (Linguistics), a collection of anecdotes about historical figures, and a collection of famous quotes.

イラン生れの文学者，言語学者。アラビア語で多くの名著を残した。サアーリビーとは「狐の人」という意味で，若い頃，狐の毛皮を売っていたためといわれる。『時代のたぐいなきもの』 Yatīma al-dahrはその時代の名詩選で，不朽の名著。ことにアラビア語文学の全盛期にあたる 10世紀の文学活動の記録としての意義が大きい。単なる名詩選でなく，詩人たちの事績をもよく伝えている。このほか『言語学』 Fiqh al-lughaや，史上の人物たちの逸話集，名言集など多数の著書を残している。
