It is a marine animal belonging to the phylum Echinodermata, class Holothuria, and family Holothuridae. It is a type of sea cucumber that lives in the sandy areas of coral reefs, and is found south of the Amami and Okinawa islands. It is the largest of all echinoderms, reaching a body length of nearly 3 meters. Its body color is brown, greenish brown, dark green, or dark bluish gray, with a striped pattern of varying shades. It slowly expands and contracts its body, and constantly moves the bushy tentacles that grow around its mouth at the tip. There are many pointed bone fragments buried inside its body, which feel rough to the touch. Its name comes from the anchor-shaped shape of these bone fragments.
