It is an abbreviation of the name Seikoori, which means that the texture of the fabric is dense and exquisite. It is a plain weave silk fabric that uses degummed threads for both the warp and weft (called Moroneri), or degummed threads for the warp and raw silk for the weft (called Kataneri). Since thin threads are used for the warp and thick, water-soaked, double threads are used for the weft, it has a texture similar to that of Shiose and Kohaku, and is somewhat hard and thick. As silk production declined during the Heian period, this was created as a high-quality silk fabric and was used for hakama fabrics such as oguchi. In the early modern period, it was known as Tango Seiko, and was a specialty of Tango Province (Kyoto Prefecture). There is also Seikohira fabric for men's hakama, and Seiko Sendaihira from the Date clan was the finest of these. However, today it is only used for the attire of priests, and is rarely used.
