Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

It is a general term for infectious diseases that can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, but it is more commonly called a sexually transmitted disease.

　性行為で感染する可能性のある感染症の総称ですが、性感染症と呼ぶほうが一般的です。

　婦人科領域で扱う性感染症は、性器クラミジア症、性器ヘルペス症、尖圭(せんけい)コンジローマ、梅毒(ばいどく)、淋菌(りんきん)感染症、トリコモナス症などがあります。これらの多くは女性器に何らかの症状が現れ、婦人科を受診すれば診断が可能です。性感染症には、HIV感染症（エイズ）やウイルス性肝炎など全身症状を主症状とする病気も含まれます。

　いわゆる「性の自由化」が進んだため、最近、性感染症が蔓延(まんえん)する傾向にあります。予防のためには、不特定多数との性交渉を避け、コンドームを性行為の間を通して用いるなど、一人ひとりの自覚が重要であることが指摘されています。
