Time sphere - Jiken

Like meridians on Earth, a great circle on the celestial sphere that passes through the celestial north and south poles is called a "time circle." In this case, "circle" is used as a synonym for "circle." When viewed from Earth, a time circle that passes through a celestial body rotates like the hands of a clock around the celestial north (or south) pole. Therefore, the angle of rotation of this time circle (called the hour angle) is the basis for determining time through astronomical observation. The name "time circle" comes from this.

地球上の経線のように、天球上で天の北極と南極を通る大円を考えて、これを「時圏」とよぶ。この場合「圏」は「円」の同義語として用いられている。地球上から見ると、ある天体を通る時圏は天の北極（または南極）を中心として時計の針のように刻々と回転している。それゆえこの時圏の回転角（時角と称する）が、天測による時刻決定の基準になる。時圏の名称はここに由来する。
