Bonjol

...The Dutch, who had been based in Padang since 1821, assisted the Customary Faction and took control of the whole of Minangkabau except for the Solok region by 1832 (first period), but between 1832 and 1834 the Padri Faction cooperated with the Customary Faction to recapture some areas (second period). In 1834 Imam Bonjol (1772-1864?) appeared and fighting became fierce, but in 1837 Bonjol also surrendered to the Dutch (third period). After that, fighting with the Dutch continued in various places, but by 1845 the Solok region was pacified (fourth period), and the Dutch had taken control of the whole of Minangkabau. ...
