A text on Japanese music. Written by Saito Gesshin in 1847 and illustrated by Hasegawa Setsutei. Divided into volumes according to the names of Japanese musical scales, it consists of five volumes and six books: Miya (2 books), Shang, Kaku, Cho, and Hane. It was later expanded and corrected as Shokyoku Ruisan Houi, and later expanded in 1889 as Shokyoku Ruisan Zoho. It contains the history, genealogy, composers, and pieces of vocal music from the Edo period, with a focus on joruri. It is too brief on Edo Nagauta, and jiuta and sokyoku are almost entirely ignored, but it is the largest music text of its kind from the Edo period in terms of the wealth of articles it contains.
