Sciatica (sciatica)

Japanese: 坐骨神経痛(座骨神経痛) - ざこつしんけいつう（英語表記）sciatica

A general term for neuralgia in the sciatic nerve region. Pain occurs in the buttocks, posterior thigh, posterior lower leg, and foot, sometimes accompanied by tenderness. Also, when lying on one's back and passively bending the lower leg at the hip joint, pain is felt along the posterior thigh (this is called Lasègue's sign). In addition to sciatica, it also includes secondary conditions caused by various factors such as spinal tumors, herniated discs, sacral arthritis, and inflammation of the gluteus maximus muscle, so it is important to differentiate between these conditions through physical examination, X-rays, MRIs, and cerebrospinal fluid tests.

坐骨神経領域の神経痛の総称。臀部，大腿後面から下腿後面さらに足部にかけての疼痛があり，ときに圧痛を伴う。また，あおむけに寝て，下肢を股関節で受動的に曲げてやると，大腿後面に沿って疼痛を感ずる(これをラセグLasègue徴候という)。坐骨神経炎によるもののほかに，脊髄腫瘍，椎間板ヘルニア，仙骨関節炎，大臀筋部の炎症など種々の原因によって生ずる二次性のものも含まれるので，診察やX線検査，MRI，髄液検査などによって鑑別することが大切である。
