Uganda National Liberation Front

Uganda National Liberation Front

...The Amin regime's crackdown on domestic dissidents and massacres became more intense, leading to a succession of government officials fleeing the country, and in 1977 the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda was assassinated, drawing international criticism. In November 1978, Amin's troops occupied the western Tanzanian border region, but the Tanzanian army, together with the Uganda National Liberation Front (formed in March 1979), invaded Uganda in return, entering Kampala in April 1979, and Amin fled the country. A transitional government was formed, headed by former Makerere University vice-chancellor Lule, but he was dismissed two months later due to internal conflicts, and the succeeding Binaisa government was also ousted in a coup in May 1980, making economic recovery difficult.
