Died: May 30, 1594. Hungarian poet from Esztergom. He lived a turbulent life, moving from place to place as a soldier, and participating in the war with the Ottoman Empire where he was wounded and died three years later. He was the first and greatest lyric poet in the Hungarian language. He created a unique poetic form called the barassi stanza, and was also outstanding as a rhyming artist. He is known for his excellent lyric works about love, such as the cycles Anna-ciklus (1578-83) and Júlia-ciklus (88-89).

ハンガリーの詩人。軍人として各地を転々とし，オスマン帝国との戦争に参加して負傷，3年後に死亡するという波乱に富んだ生涯をおくった。ハンガリー語による最初で最大の抒情詩人。バラッシー詩節と名づけられる独自の詩型を生み出し，韻文技巧家としても抜きん出ていた。恋愛をうたった抒情詩にすぐれた作品があり，連作詩『アンナに捧げる詩』 Anna-ciklus (1578～83) ，『ユーリアに捧げる詩』 Júlia-ciklus (88～89) などが有名。
