A city in central Kochi Prefecture facing Tosa Bay. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. The city developed around the prefecture's best port overlooking Susaki Bay, and is served by the Tosa Line and the Kochi Expressway. The port was once known for bonito fishing, but in recent years it has become an outer port for Kochi City, shipping out lumber, limestone, cement, and other products, and is active in cement, electrical machinery, and lumber processing. In addition to rice cultivation, greenhouse horticulture is practiced. The coast is a ria coast, and to the east lies the long and narrow Uranouchi Bay, which stretches 11 km from east to west, where yellowtail and sea bream are farmed. Area: 135.44 ^km2 . Population: 24,698 (2010).

高知県中部，土佐湾に面する市。1954年市制。須崎湾に臨む県第１の良港を中心に市街が発達，土讃線，高知自動車道が通じる。港はかつてカツオ漁で知られたが，近年は高知市の外港として木材，石灰石，セメントなどを積み出し，セメント，電気機械，木材加工が盛ん。米作のほかハウス園芸が行われる。海岸はリアス海岸で，東部には東西11kmの細長い浦ノ内湾があり，湾内でハマチ，タイの養殖が行われる。135.44km²。２万4698人（2010）。
