Sriwijaya
A country that flourished in the 7th and 8th centuries, centered on Palembang in Sumatra. It extended its influence across the Straits of Malacca to Kedah on the Malay Peninsula, controlling the key trade routes in Asia. Chinese documents refer to it as Shulifo-sui during the Tang Dynasty and Sanfo-qi during the Song Dynasty. After the 9th century, the Sailendra dynasty of Java succeeded the kingdom of the country.
